Critics Choice Awards Postponed Amid Los Angeles Fires

The Critics Choice Awards, which were set to take place in Santa Monica on Sunday and air live on E!, have been postponed amid the wildfires currently raging across Los Angeles. The show has set a new date of Jan. 26.

“This unfolding tragedy has already had a profound impact on our community. All our thoughts and prayers are with those battling the devastating fires and with all who have been affected,” Critics Choice Association CEO Joey Berlin said in a statement.

The event was set to be held at Barker Hangar, which is located just a few miles from the Pacific Palisades where thousands have been evacuated and many homes destroyed, along with a separate fire that is ravaging the Pasadena-Altadena area. Chelsea Handler is hosting the awards show for the third consecutive year, with Wicked, Conclave and Shogun among the top nominees.

Critics Choice joins a number of other Hollywood events that have been affected in recent days, including premieres for Wolf Man and Unstoppable on Tuesday; Better Man, The Pitt and On Call on Wednesday and The Last Showgirl on Thursday. The annual BAFTA Tea Party scheduled for Saturday in Beverly Hills was also canceled, and the AFI Awards, a starry luncheon honoring the 10 best movies and TV shows of the year, were postponed along with Saturday’s AARP’s Movies for Grownups Awards.

New York events are also starting to be impacted, as American Primeval held a NYC event on Wednesday without its planned red carpet and hosted a screening and Q&A just for its cast and crew. The New York premiere of Back in Action on Thursday was canceled and a NYC tastemaker screening for Goosebumps: The Vanishing was postponed.
